Nikolai I. Korobov

1905 – 1979
 
Director of “Gipromez”
from 1941 to 1948
 
Korobov was born in Makeyevka village of Donetsk region. In 1920 he started to work at the
Makeyevsky metallurgical plant. In 1925 he entered the Donetsk Mining Institute. In 1927 he
was transferred into the Moscow  Mining Academy and graduated from it in 1930. Then he
completed  the post-graduate studies and up to 1936 headed the sub-faculty of the Moscow
Institute of Steel and Alloys. Afterwards he was appointed the Deputy Director of the All-Union Industrial Academy.
Since 1937 – the Head of the Technical Department of the Chief Directorate of Metallurgical
Industry of the People’s Commissariat of Heavy Industry, in 1939 he was appointed the Chief
Engineer of the Eastern Chief Directorate of Metallurgical Industry of the People’s Commissariat of Ferrous Metallurgy and since 1940 – the Head of the Technical Department of the People’s Commissariat of Ferrous Metallurgy.
Korobov was at the head of “Gipromez” in the hard times for the Institute –
during the evacuation in the wartime and under the trying conditions of restoration after the

end of the war.
